Introduction
This map depicts the 1724 expedition of Ensign J.T. Rhenius, who was tasked with acquiring draught oxen from bordering Khoekhoe communities by Governor Jan de la Fontaine and the Council of Policy. The journey and subsequent encounters offer insight into the relations between the Cape Authority and the Indigenous peoples of the Cape during this period from the perspective of a high-ranking member of the Cape Colony.
